A Modern Tragedy

By: Phyllis Bentley

Price: £25.00

Quantity: 1 available

U.K. first edition in a dust jacket. Phyllis Bentley is now best known as a crime writer, but her regional fiction is noteworthy and bears comparison with Thomas Hardy, this novel draws heavily upon her upbringing as the daughter of a Yorkshire mill owner. This is an unusually attractive example. The book is firmly and squarely bound in slightly bumped and rubbed black cloth, lettered in bright gilt. The text block is slightly toned, with minor spots of foxing and some dustiness to the top edge, it is free from inscriptions. The dust jacket is the original, it is a little grubby, slightly faded to the spine and with some minor nicks and closed tears to the edges.
