First edition in three volumes. Quite an uncommon Victorian triple decker and an entertaining novel, revolving around the assassination of Tsar Alexander II and the activities of Russian nihilists. The books are reasonably firmly bound in the publisher's yellow cloth, lettered and decorated in black, the corners and spine ends are slightly bumped and rubbed and the cloth is a little marked. The text blocks are slightly toned and foxed with a neatly written name and address to the front pastedown of volume one and a small ownership stamp to the front endpaper of each volume, they are cracked at points.
