First edition in a dust jacket. Presented to Mary Wilson at a Gala Dinner and Dance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pergamon Press and the 65th Birthday of its Founder Robert Maxwell. The book contains the invitation to the dance and a label on the endpapers presenting the book to Mary Wilson. The book also contains an invitation to a Gala Dinner and Dance to celebrate Bob and Betty Maxwell's 40th Wedding Anniversary at Headington Hill Hall, Oxford Friday, 7 June 1985. Most interestingly also included are the notes made by Harold Wilson on House of Lords Notepaper of a speech To Bob in which he mentions the 1968 "I'm Backing Britain" campaign in relation to Bob, adding the word successful as an afterthought! The campaign having been generally viewed as a bit of an embarrassment. Last but not least a request to Mr Wilson for a signed photograph, which appears to have been used as a bookmark. Haines was Wilson's Press Secretary 1969-70. Provenance: Hansons Auctioneers - A Prime Minister's Life - The Collection of Harold & Mary Wilson - Friday 10 May 2019. The book is tightly bound. The dust jacket is worn at the extremities; unclipped showing £12.95. The pages are beginning to brown; internally the book is clean, free of markings and foxing.
